Without God, Then What?

​   Most everybody lives by some philosophy of life.  Some people may not think theirs through very carefully, but nonetheless it’s pretty certain they have one.  It is that philosophy that determines an individual’s values, goals and direction in life.  What is important to him, how he lives, even how he thinks is a result of whatever overriding principle he employs to determine what his life is all about.

   Obviously, the source from which a person draws the fundamental principles upon which his life will be based is of utmost importance.  It needs to be a source rooted in wisdom, or his life will be wasted foolishly.  His source should provide a profound sense of meaning and purpose, or he could end up concluding that his life is meaningless and without value.  It needs to offer him real hope, or hopelessness will crush the vitality from his life.
   God is the only source that answers all of these needs.  His wisdom is unparalleled.  The principles that underlie His teachings are superior to those of all other philosophies of life.  They give life meaning, purpose, direction and a deep sense of worth that is unachievable by any other means.  Living by God’s guidance simply makes life better!
   Hope is the basic message of God’s word.  It explains that we are not just another animal but that we have a soul.  We are spiritual beings created in God’s image (Gen. 1:26-27).  As such our life holds deep meaning and value and hope.  This world, and life therein, is not all there is.  Indeed, it’s not even the most important thing.  We look forward to eternal life beyond this mortal life, in a better place without the sickness and pain and suffering and dying that is so common here.  A place without all of the ugliness that prevails in a world where sin reigns.
   But some people want a different source, a different value system upon which to base their lives.  Well, where does a person go to do better than God?  Without God, how does one determine the best direction for his life?  Without God, where is the value in life?  Without God, what gives life purpose and meaning?  Without God, where does one go to find lasting hope, and what would that hope be?  Without God, then what?
   Your life is not about just going through the routines of daily living in this world.  You are a specially created being, with a soul!  There is a spiritual essence within you that makes you unique and connects you with God, your creator.  He has a better life waiting for you.
