by: Gary L. Hutchens The scriptures repeatedly encourage those who walk with God in faithfulness. “Blessed is the man who walks not the in the counsel of the ungodly…but his delight is in the law of the Lord.” (Ps. 1:1-2). “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust…” (Ps. 40:4). “Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways.” (Ps. 128:1). The key on our part is our commitment to faithfully walk with God. Many people want God’s blessings without having to faithfully walk with Him. Life in this world is hard, but God assures us that He will be with and take care of all who walk with Him in faithfulness. While teaching on the necessities of life Jesus assured, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matt. 6:33).
The devil is always active, trying to lure us into sinful practices and away from God. Our soul’s destruction is his goal, but God will give us the strength to overcome the devil’s temptations. “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Cor. 10:13). Peter’s words comfort us; “…the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,” (2 Pet. 2:9). God will provide the strength we need to face whatever challenge Satan might try to use against us. “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” (Jas. 1:12). But the key is that we walk with God! “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners;” (Jas. 4:7-8). Consistent faithfulness to God through Christ enables us to overcome our adversary, our deadliest enemy, the devil; “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” (1 Pet. 5:8-9). God will always walk with us as long as we continue to faithfully walk with Him. “In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Ps. 56:11). “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” (Heb. 13:5). We are so blessed to walk with God. He is not an impersonal creator; He loves us so much that He sent His Son to the cross to die on our behalf (Jn. 3:16). He knows us intimately, even the number of hairs on our head (Matt. 10:30). He comforts us by assuring us that He truly cares about us, and we can lean upon Him; “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Pet. 5:7). The ultimate blessing of faithfully walking with God is an eternal home with Him in Heaven. Jesus said, “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” (Rev. 2:10).
